Sponsor | | stinkymajinky | Mar 5, 4:54pm | I agree with both of you from the point of view of users that visit and post to their respective forums often. The problem arises with forum members that visit the forums less frequently.
As for calling it SPAM I believe you would be technically way off base. If a SU user adds themselves as a member of a forum then the forum owner has every right to communicate with its members about the forum. Hence, it's not SPAM. HOWEVER that being said, I did mention an OPT OUT for those that would not want to receive mass PMs from the forum owners. This would make it the forum members choice to decide whether or not to allow PMs from the forum member. That way, everyone gets their cake and can eat it too!
Come on, are you telling me you haven't wanted to run a contest in one of your forums and wished you could mass PM all the forum members to get their attention and involvement? OR maybe send a mass PM to one of your forums to remind them all about a rule infraction that some of them may have been abusing lately? I'm sure there are many more reasons to be able to mass PM forum members much in the same way you would send mass email out to friends or coworkers instead of just posting a note somewhere and hoping everyone sees it. By mass PMing everyone you know they received the message. By posting the message in the forum you have no assurance that anyone gets the message. |
